BIOGRAPHY

Qantas Socceroos

Wonderfully gifted, Kewell's flying runs mainly down the left have caused the world's best defenders major headaches ever since he burst on to the scene with Leeds and the Qantas Socceroos in his teens.

Following his success at Leeds, secured a dream move to Liverpool, which brought him two European Champions titles, but his years there were blighted by major ankle and groin injuries.

He was arguably Australia's player of the match in the epic final 2006 World Cup qualifier in Sydney against Uruguay and was a key player for the Socceroos in Germany and scored the crucial equalising goal against Croatia that saw Australia qualify for the second round.

He however missed the match with Italy, because of an infected foot and his enterprise was sorely missed as they bowed out in dramatic fashion to the eventual winners.

Injuries plagued the finals years of his club career at Liverpool, although his commitment to Australia at the 2007 Asian Cup and the 2010 World Cup qualifiers, has shown he still has the necessary talent and desire to continue at the top level.

He moved to Galatasaray in 2009 and after a promising start to his first season, underwent groin surgery which limited his club appearances in the first half of 2010.
