Adam Federici has played most of his professional career in England after moving there as a 17 year old. The tall, powerful goalkeeper has all the attributes of a top ‘keeper and is ready to take the gloves and the goalkeeper’s jersey permanently as soon as Schwarzer retires.
After signing for Wolves and going on loan to several clubs including Bristol City and Southend United, he found a home in the form of Reading. Having made 82 appearances for the Championship side, he’s certainly proven himself good enough to be called their number one keeper now.
He actually made his debut against Tottenham Hotspur when Reading were in the Premiership and since then has battled his way ahead of his rivals into the much coveted first team goalkeeper’s position.
His undoubted strength and shot-stopping ability make him one of the best goalkeepers in England and the only reason he’s yet to make more than a handful of national team appearances is the Mark Schwarzer factor.
With Schwarzer heading towards the end of his career, expect Federici to be amongst the front-runners in taking over as Australia’s number one.
